Due to some requests for some handy new features, I’m releasing an update to the fantasy baseball cheatsheet. This cheatsheet is a powerful Excel file made specifically for rotisserie drafts that pulls in data from projection systems, expert rankings and ADP systems (other versions are yet to come for point-based leagues or auction drafts). The spreadsheet also has the neat feature of showing you the expected roto points gained (WERTH value) in each category based on your individual league settings and the projections chosen.
For more information on the basics of the cheatsheet, check out the initial release post. When opening up the spreadsheet, you may be asked to enable macros. Please enable macros as that is the only way this spreadsheet can work!
This week has some awesome updates that I’m really excited about. In the comments last week, Smitty suggested adding a couple of features. So, the cheatsheet now includes a couple of extra roto categories (walks, hits, holds, holds + saves), the ability to set outfield positions for your league (LF, CF, RF) and a new maximum of 24 teams. In addition to those features, any ADP or projection data has been updated where updates were available. A bunch of small bugs were addressed that might have affected certain league settings. And, finally, I’m excited to say that I found a way to make the cheatsheet populate much quicker when adjusting your league settings (it should be almost instantaneous now instead of waiting 10-15 seconds after clicking “create my cheatsheet” and it’s more responsive when changing those settings each time).

New features for 2012 version compared to 2011:
- Team Summary tab added (as explained above)
- Live Standings now only based on team’s starters as opposed to all drafted players
- Draft Central tab is redesigned to be easier to read and follow
- Customize button added to have more control over what is shown and not shown
- Ability to sort by position now added so you can more easily target a specific position when needed
New features in v3.1 compared to v3.0:
- Two new roto categories for batters (walks, hits) and two for pitchers (holds, holds+saves)
- Ability to use specific outfield positions (LF, CF, RF)
- Maximum teams increased from 16 to 24
- Updated Fangraphs projections, ESPN and RotoChamp rankings and MockDraftCentral ADP data
- Cheatsheet creation when choosing Settings is a million times faster
Next up will be an auction-based version of the cheatsheet as well as the non-roto version for those in point-based leagues. Stay tuned for that. For those using Macs, I’m still trying to figure out how this might work for you lovely people. Either way, make sure to play around with the cheatsheet to test it out so that I can make any other changes you might come up with before draft season comes around!

A bug I noticed in both versions is when you chose Losses as a category, it puts K/9 in the spreadsheet. Otherwise, this thing works flawlessly!

The roto auction sheet is next up… that should be up any day now and then the H2H draft sheet will follow. It's cheatsheet mania!

02/09/2012 at 7:51 PMGreat document, glad to see someone has the time that I don't to put something like this together. I am noticing one small issue on the Roto doc. When selecting top player in the list, their data is not causing the live standings to reflect that player selection. ex. in the current sort that I am seeing, Matt Kemp is in row 4. If I mark him as being selected, the standings remain the same. However if I remove that selection and select the player in row 5, then the standings do change. I haven't dug in to it further as of yet.

02/10/2012 at 2:44 PMLuke. I'm stuck using MS Excel 2003. Doesn't seem to convert properly to allow me to use all the features. Do I have to have Excel 2007 or newer?

02/10/2012 at 3:48 PMAh, yes, I have not tried this out in Excel 2003. I know it works fine in 2007 or newer. I'll try to test it out in Excel 2003 and see if there's anything I might be able to do for that (most likely would have to remove a number of minor features).
I tried saving the Excel file in 2003 format but I don't think it will resolve your issues (and, wowza, it makes it a 13 MB file!):

02/12/2012 at 6:26 AMI'm getting an error after I attempt to create my cheatsheet using the file you provided for the Excel 2003 users. "Debug" is greyed out, otherwise I'd try to help figure out the issue, though macros are not my expertise by any margin.

02/12/2012 at 3:38 PMI'm going to start the process of removing the features that will likely cause an error in Excel 2003. Once that is done, I'll remove the link above and post an updated version…. Hopefully it will resolve the issues that you're both seeing.

02/16/2012 at 3:36 PMHmm, do you have the latest version downloaded? I'm able to input different team names for all 20 teams on my end and the standings update correctly when those teams draft someone… Give me a little more information if it's still messing up for you with the latest version.

I have encountered a couple of errors, though. After entering my league settings (13 teams, OBP and SLG instead of AVE and RBI, 4 OF), Live Standings shows nothing for the Runs column. If I go to settings, revert to the standard 5×5, the Runs column populates on the standings page.
Also, I can't get results to populate on the Team Summary page, both with my league settings, and reverting to standard 5×5.
Finally, a question: what is the difference between Total Roto Values and Overall Projected Standings?

03/30/2012 at 12:53 AMVery nice sheet. Only one criticism/problem. You need to add accept blanks to the data validation for the dropdown boxes. Once you select at team that drafted a player, it can't be blanked out. So if you make a mistake, it can't be undone.
