2013 Fantasy Baseball Draft Cheatsheets (Roto, Auction, H2H) | Version 1.0

You can now officially say that the 2013 fantasy baseball season has begun because the first batch of Mr. Cheatsheet’s fantasy baseball draft spreadsheets is ready for public consumption!

For the uninitiated, these cheatsheets are powerful Excel spreadsheets which are completely and utterly customizable to your exact league type. They pull data from a wide variety of sources so that you have lots of expert opinions, public opinions and advanced projections at your disposal with merely a few clicks here and there. You can easily compare players and see live updates on your league standings as the draft progresses.

There are three different spreadsheet options for you. The Roto Cheatsheet is designed for rotisserie league drafts and uses ADP data and also converts projections into WERTH roto values. Aside from the standard 5×5 categories, there are 18 additional categories that you can select for your own unique league type when setting up your cheatsheet. The Roto Auction Cheatsheet has some additional functionality for converting expert dollar values to your league type and has a dollar values calculated based off your projections of choice. Those projected dollar values continuously update through the draft as the values change based on the available league money left. The Points League Cheatsheet is for H2H point-based leagues and allows you to input your league settings so that the cheatsheet automatically calculates projected point totals for each player based on the advanced projections that you choose.

Be forewarned that these cheatsheets are designed to work in Excel 2007-2010 and were designed in Windows. The Mac version of Excel (and older versions of Excel) have been known to have problems when trying to operate these cheatsheets. Also, Microsoft has a few security features which makes opening these spreadsheets more annoying than it should be. If you have the default security settings, you’ll be asked if you want to enable macros when opening this spreadsheet and you must enable macros in order for this cheatsheet to work! In addition, Microsoft may point out that the file originated from an internet location so you will have to click the button that says Enable Editing. You can always change your settings in Excel so you don’t get asked that again but those are two hiccups you might encounter before you get to play around in the sandbox here. Now that you’ve been prepped, go ahead and download your cheatsheet of choice:

2013 Roto Cheatsheet
2013 Roto Auction Cheatsheet
2013 Points League Cheatsheet

After opening the cheatsheet, you’ll be presented with a form to enter some of your league specifications such as number of teams, team names, number of starters at each position, your roto categories and so on. You’ll also choose what sources you want to display information from. Keep in mind that you can always change this info later if you just want to close that and peek around for now.

The Draft Central tab is your home base for these sheets and it is where you’ll see a summary of information for each player throughout the draft and this is where you’ll enter what team drafts each player. Changes on this sheet update the Live Standings and Team Summary tabs. The Live Standings tab will calculate each team’s projected starters and base the current standings throughout the draft on that info. The Team Summary tab shows who is on each team and who is projected to be their starters. The Player Profiles tab allows you to compare players and look at all of the projection and expert data for them. For roto leagues, you’ll also see a calculation of how many points in the standings you may gain (or lose) by drafting that player.

Data included for this v1.0 release:

  • CAIRO projections
  • Steamer projections

Looks great. I can't believe you give this away! Two quick things – One, when I 'customize' with 'hide drafted players', all players disappeared. Did I do something wrong? Two, can we customize for AL and NL only?

Hmmm… everyone disappearing is certainly not a good thing! Was that in the Roto Cheatsheet? And, yes, my goal for this preseason is to have an AL/NL Only option either within those sheets or in a new sheet. But, currently, it's not built in.

Thanks, Luke. Yes, it was in the Roto Cheatsheet. I tried 'drafting' a few players to see if that made a difference. Everyone was still hidden, drafted and undrafted.

Sorry, it was the Roto Auction sheet.

Found the problem! Try downloading it again. And, thank you for finding that… I'm not my own beta tester at times so finding this glitches now is great.

Found a glitch when you add more than 18 teams . Curr Proj $ Value stops appearing for pitchers and the hitter values go through the roof. I'm using 25 man rosters with C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OF, OF, OF, CF, CF, UTIL, SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP*, P, P, P, P.

    * I actually wanted 5 RP but the system doesn't allow it.

Cool. Thanks, Noisy. I'll check that out too! Thanks for testing these out, everyone. It's good to get these fixed before draft season is fully underway!

Okay, I've located the problem for yours, Noisy. It doesn't have to do with the number of teams exactly. In your league there, if there are 20 teams then you have 240 different pitchers who would be in starting lineups. I only have 220 pitchers in the spreadsheet right now so it can't do the calculations for that league. I'll add more players in when I do the next update so I'll try to get that to be a much bigger number.

In regards to the system not allowing you 5 RP, I made an adjustment to the Roto Auction sheet so you can re-download it and it will let you do that from now on.

    Thanks Luke!

I downloaded the sheet and now I can use the 5 RP setting with the caveat that the player pool isn't yet deep enough to allow that many relievers in a 20 team league. On the other hand, if do 5 SP, 3P, 2P and don't assign any bench spots to pitchers, I'm good to go. I don't think it's all that important to have projections that deep anyways. At the end of the draft, I won't be comparing projections so much as digging for deep sleepers.

Hello. I mostly play in Yahoo Head-to-Head leagues. Which spreadsheet should I use?? Thanks!!

Are those roto H2H leagues or are they point-based leagues? If they're roto H2H then the default Roto sheets would be what you want.

Can i change the starts for a team once a pl;ayer is drafted? or is it only by who was drafted first for that team?

Billy: It's based on their Average Draft Position. I'll see if I can create a way to override that though. If so, I'll put it in the next release of the sheets.

Danielle: You can currently sort by position from the drop-down at the top. Is that what you're looking for?

Any updates on when you might have an AL Only version of the Roto Auction Cheatsheet? Love the document and look forward to using it for the first time this year!

Hi, Lazer! That's my next big project. The next update is coming very soon and has a really nifty new feature that I had been working on (in addition to a lot of tweaks for auction drafts too). But then I plan to look into what resources I might be able to pull from for AL/NL Only sheets.

Luke thank you so much for adding the AL/NL only option!!! I was so excited I worked over my lunch hour inputting my leagues keepers so I'd be ready for our auction. For some reason when I look at the Team Summary tab the $$$ values don't match what I've spent. The Dollars Remaining total is correct, but for some reason there are wierd values in the $$$ column. I'll email you a screen shot if you'd like. Thanks for all you do:).
