2017 Fantasy Baseball Cheatsheets [Version 2.0]

I unveiled my majorly updated 2017 fantasy baseball cheatsheets just a couple weeks ago. Since then, new data has been released, including my own projections, and there’s also been lots of ideas, suggestions and bug fixes coming up in the comments here. It goes without saying that a big update was due and today is that day!

First off, no, I sadly didn’t get every single request in. There were a lot. Many of them were great ideas but were things that would have required too many hours to be able to accomplish so they’ll likely have to wait until next year’s version. I’m still pretty pleased with what got into this 2.0 version of the 2017 cheatsheets though and I think you’ll dig them too.

What’s New In Version 2.0?

All of the sheets now have updated projections and now have my Special Blend projections included in them. All of the roto sheets now have a few extra categories to choose from too (Extra Base Hits, Net Saves, Blown Saves being some of the big ones). But, aside from that, the Roto Auction sheet had some big tweaks:

  • In the Roto Auction sheet, you can now choose whether you want your projected draft values to be inflated based on player position or not. In the past, catchers (or other weak positions) typically got a boost because, well, everyone has to draft a catcher so even the weak ones have value. This resulted in values being “position-adjusted” but that might not be what works for everyone. So, on the Settings page, you can now choose whether you want your values to have that adjustment or not.
  • You can also set individual team budgets in the Roto Auction sheet. I’ve heard of some keeper leagues that involve sacrificing future draft dollars thus resulting in teams entering the year with different draft budgets to begin with. Now, you can reflect that in the sheets with custom team budgets.

Those are probably the biggest feature changes of everything. But, there were numerous reported bugs that were fixed included an issue with Net Stolen Bases causing some wackiness.

Cheatsheet Options

If you haven’t used this cheatsheet before, you’ll see that it is designed to accommodate nearly any type of fantasy baseball league imaginable. And, believe me, there’s more league variations than you could even imagine. That being said, it can be a bit overwhelming to see so many options for a new user. To get started, I’d just enter your league settings on the Settings page and leave most things with their default settings and dive in. If you don’t like the data you’re seeing, go back to the Settings page and maybe try some other Projections or Rankings on there until it looks good to you.

Once the draft is going, enter your picks into the sheet and see your Standings and data start to adapt and change for your specific league. The idea is that the cheatsheet will give you data and values that are completely unique to your specific league type.

WERTH Values (Roto Leagues)

If you’re playing in a roto league, you may notice that these cheatsheets have a WERTH value for each player. These are essentially z-scores in each roto category based on your league setting. The cheatsheets calculate who the projected league starters would be and then use that to calculate league averages and standard deviations in each category. Using that data, it then says how far above average each person is in that category (z-score) so a positive WERTH value means that player will contribute positively for your team. This is all dependent on your league settings which makes these values completely unique to your league.

Troubleshooting

At this point, draft season is in full swing and there likely won’t be major changes to the cheatsheets from now until Opening Day. That being said, if there are things not working correctly, let me know in the comments so I can fix them and upload a new version. I’ll also likely upload another minor update or two with up-to-date projections and data.

Also, for Points Leagues, there will be an update coming soon that will add in a few more point category options. I didn’t have the time to get those added into this update.

Keep checking back here to see the latest version available though.

Donations

I said it in my initial release but, ho boy, these cheatsheets take a lot of work to create. Between creating them and responding to everyone’s issues at times, it becomes a full-time job for me in February and March even though I opt to put these out here for free. I appreciate anyone who is willing to donate a couple bucks as a way of saying thanks for this work. It helps me keep the site online and gives me the motivation to keep making these each year. You certainly don’t have to though because I want these to be free! Regardless, later on, let me know if you win your leagues because I always love hearing that too! But if do you want to buy me a coffee or a beer, the donate button is below:

Have a great draft weekend everyone!

    Hey Luke,

I’m trying to add an unlisted player to someone’s team. When I click the make pick tab, it updates the auction log and draft tab but it does not add the player to the teams roster or reflect in the budget.

    Love the cheatsheet!

Thanks for all your hard work! Newbie here. Add the scoring settings of your individual league then edit your league’s pre-draft rankings based WERTH values? WERTH adjusts the player values based on your league category settings? TIA!

Hey David. Thanks for the kind words. The WERTH does change value based on your league settings. It determines what replacement level is for your league and then adjusts player’s values based on that and the scoring settings you choose!

Is there a way to add Hit by pitch for batter and Hit batter for pitchers in points league?

HBP is there for batters in the latest version. I’m not sure if I have any projections for HBP for pitchers though… I’ll look into it and let you know if I am able to add it in.

Hi Luke, I got my biggest draft on Sunday; do you plan on releasing new versions today or tomorrow..?
Just to know if I work on the version I have now, or wait and use the new ones.. 🙂
    Keep up the great work!

Is there a password to unprotect each sheet? I am unable to modify.

Hi Scott. You shouldn’t need a password in order to use the sheet. The only things that are protected are cells with formulas that would break the sheet if modified. What are you trying to do in there that you are unable to do without a password?

I’m trying to enter team names and keeper players into each of the rosters.

Go to the Settings page, type in the Team Name into the Team Names section. Then, go to the Keepers tab and choose the players and teams there and then click the button to assign keepers when you are done.

            Thanks for the help.

He’s in there though his name is spelled Miguel Sano so if you search for that then you should find him.
